Ingredients
  

For the Filling
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil Can substitute with sesame oil.
  • 3 cloves Garlic Minced, fresh garlic preferred.
  • 1 small Shallot Finely chopped, can substitute with onions.
  • 1 pound Ground Beef 85/15 blend; consider turkey or plant-based alternatives.
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce Use tamari for gluten-free option.
  • 1 tablespoon Oyster Sauce Plant-based oyster sauce can be substituted.
  • 1 teaspoon Brown Sugar Alternatively, use honey or maple syrup.
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Lime Juice Best when fresh.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Chili Flakes Adjust to taste.
  • 1 cup Fresh Thai Basil Leaves Chopped, substitute with regular basil if unavailable.
For the Wrappers
  • 8-10 pieces Rice Paper Wrappers Thin Vietnamese-style preferred.
  • Optional Fresh Herbs/Veggies Mint, cilantro, carrots, cucumbers for customization.
For the Dipping Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Dipping Sauce Soy-lime or chili-garlic blend.

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat for about 1 minute.
  2. Add 3 cloves of minced garlic and 1 finely chopped shallot to the skillet; sauté for about 1 minute.
  3. Introduce 1 pound of ground beef to the skillet; cook for about 5 to 7 minutes until browned and no pink remains.
  4. Stir in 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, 1 teaspoon of brown sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of chili flakes; let simmer for 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat; stir in 1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice and 1 cup of chopped Thai basil leaves, and allow the mixture to cool slightly.
  6. Set up a rolling station with warm water, beef filling, and optional fresh herbs and veggies.
  7. Dip a rice paper sheet into warm water for 5 to 10 seconds until soft, avoiding over-soaking.
  8. Lay the damp rice paper flat; place a portion of filling and optional herbs/veggies near the bottom edge.
  9. Fold the bottom edge over the filling, tuck in the sides, and roll tightly but gently.
  10. Repeat with remaining ingredients; slice each roll in half for serving.

Notes
