Preparation Steps
- Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat for about 1 minute.
- Add 3 cloves of minced garlic and 1 finely chopped shallot to the skillet; sauté for about 1 minute.
- Introduce 1 pound of ground beef to the skillet; cook for about 5 to 7 minutes until browned and no pink remains.
- Stir in 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, 1 teaspoon of brown sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of chili flakes; let simmer for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Remove from heat; stir in 1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice and 1 cup of chopped Thai basil leaves, and allow the mixture to cool slightly.
- Set up a rolling station with warm water, beef filling, and optional fresh herbs and veggies.
- Dip a rice paper sheet into warm water for 5 to 10 seconds until soft, avoiding over-soaking.
- Lay the damp rice paper flat; place a portion of filling and optional herbs/veggies near the bottom edge.
- Fold the bottom edge over the filling, tuck in the sides, and roll tightly but gently.
- Repeat with remaining ingredients; slice each roll in half for serving.

Notes
Soak rice paper for only 5-10 seconds and cool the filling before wrapping to maintain structure.
