Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, allspice (or nutmeg), and salt.
  3. Pour in the unsweetened applesauce, dairy-free milk, neutral oil, vinegar, and vanilla extract into the dry mix. Stir until just combined.
  4. Transfer the batter into your prepared baking pan and bake for about 32-38 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  5. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Prepare the frosting by beating the vegan butter until fluffy, then gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
  7. Once cooled, spread the frosting over the cake and consider adding caramelized apples for decoration.
