  • 1 box Devil's Food Cake Mix Can substitute with chocolate cake mix
  • 1/2 cup Oil (Canola or Vegetable) Unsweetened applesauce can be a substitute
  • 1 cup Milk Whole milk recommended; can use non-dairy alternatives
For the Frosting
  • 1 box Chocolate Pudding Instant pudding mix
  • 2 cups Milk Whole or dairy-free option
  • 8 oz Whipped Topping (Cool Whip) Homemade whipped cream can be used

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
  3. Prepare the Devil's Food cake mix according to package instructions with oil, water, and eggs.
  4. Pour the chocolate cake batter into the prepared dish. Carefully layer the ricotta mixture on top without mixing.
  5. Bake for 60 to 70 minutes. The center should be slightly jiggly but firm upon cooling.
  6. Let the cake cool at room temperature for 30 minutes to set.
  7. Mix the chocolate pudding with milk as per the package instructions and fold in the whipped topping.
  8. Spread the chocolate frosting over the cooled cake.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving for best flavor.
