  • 8 oz Semisweet Chocolate or dark chocolate for richer flavor
  • 2 tbsp Butter use unsalted

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat eggs, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Gradually add to dry mixture.
  4. Pour batter into pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden and toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Cool completely on a wire rack.
  6. In a saucepan, heat milk until boiling. Whisk yolks and sugar until creamy.
  7. Gradually add hot milk to egg mixture while whisking to prevent curdling.
  8. Cook mixture on medium-low heat until thickened, about 5-7 minutes. Strain and cool.
  9. Heat heavy cream until bubbles form, then add chocolate and mix until smooth.
  10. Add butter if using, mix until incorporated. Set aside to cool slightly.
  11. Assemble by layering cake, custard, and ganache. Chill in refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.
